www.parkwoodestate.com Step back in time and experience the lifestyle of a Canadian auto baron during the interwar years. Parkwood is one of Canada's finest and last remaining grand estates, featuring architectural, landscape and interior designs of the 1920's and 1930's. Once home to Sam McLaughlin, founder of GM of Canada, the estate is faithfully preserved and is enlivened by the stories of the lives and accomplishments of a remarkable family. The majestic estate is now a National Historic Site, open year-round to be enjoyed by all, and a popular Hollywood movie set for feature films including Hollywoodland, Chicago, Billy Madison, X-Men, and The Tuxedo, to name a few. Today, the large property still retains its original essence as the private abode of a prominent Canadian family, reflecting not only the personal interests and tastes of its owner, but also five remarkable decades in history as Canada and the world embraced both the automobile and 20th century technology. The Heritage Gardens are open daily from May to September; free of charge. Mansion Tours are offered year-round, fully guided and feature approximately 30 rooms. Tea House Restaurant operates during the summer months, Greenhouse Tea Room from October to May. Weddings, meetings and event rentals also available. |
